Queen Loana.
I pretty much agree with what Jake Seliger has to say about Umberto Eco's The Mysterious Flame of Queen Loana, a visually appealing book that will disappoint readers who make it past the pretty pictures and hope for an actual novel, rather than a narrative pretext to revisit lots of stuff that Eco liked to read when he was young. As an exercise in nostalgia, it has its moments; as fiction, it doesn't.
I've been meaning to post about this and everything else I've read in the past six months, and maybe someday I will.
