The Palmetto State.
Teofilo explains why "South Carolina really is by far the weirdest state in the nation and always has been." It's the slave trade -- and not that slave trade, the other slave trade. The plantations came later.

John Edwards was born in South Carolina and he was by far the weirdest Prez Candidate, which I suppose goes hand in hand with being a Palmettoite.
