All the world's a stage.
I have tried to explain to people in other cities how and why Northern Californians "stage" houses for sale, without a lot of success. People squint their eyes and nod their heads, and wonder whether I've spent too much time in the metaphorical tulips of the Bay Area real estate market. (Yes, I have.) In the SF Chronicle Magazine, Chris Colin takes a shot at explaining.

so when we sold our home, we'd clean it up entirly before any walkthroughs. it didn't sell and didn't sell and we were really geting discouraged.
Once we're getting ready for dinner, there was a cutting board with garlic chopped up. Fresh bread and oil next to it. an opened bottle of a nice barolo. then we realized we had to run to market. While we were out a realtor brought people in- they weren't supposed to as we'd want all that cleaned up. of corse they bought the place.
