Alan Turing.

On the anniversary of his birthday, Andrew Sullivan remembers Alan Turing's brilliant life and untimely death.

Comments:
I once had the good fortune - at Kings College, Cambridge - to take a look at a collection of Turing memorabilia - among them the original scripts of his papers on the imitation game & artificial intelligence, and programs & routines he'd written. Absolutely thrilling. The later private letters, the post-mortem report & the spoon that held the cyanide were there too . . .
